PRIORITIES & VALUES
"In the past year, I have held myself to a simple, singular principle – we can only succeed at the speed of trust. San Rafael City Schools has identified equity, community, and joy as our core District values. In this spirit, I work to intentionally build partnerships with our families, teachers, students, and communities – especially those historically marginalized – and involve them in decision-making processes, fostering more inclusive and culturally responsive relationships.
Should I have the honor of being elected, I will continue in this work – championing the vital services our schools provide, supporting academic opportunity, and promoting the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of every individual within our educational environment."
ISSUES
Immigration & Creating a Sense of Belonging
The immigration challenges affecting children and families within our district are of paramount concern. It is imperative to create an inclusive and supportive environment for all students, regardless of their immigration status. I am committed to advocating for policies that protect and empower immigrant families, ensuring every child has equal access to quality education and a safe learning environment.
Community Care
My experiences with trauma, housing instability, and reliance on public assistance have given me a deep understanding of the challenges faced by many in our community. With empathy and dedication, I will work as a network weaver and dot connector, ensuring that our decisions are informed by the perspectives of SRCS staff, children, families, and community partners.
My personal and professional journey has been fueled by a commitment to fostering trust and collaboration within our community, and I will bring that same energy into and commitment into every discussion the Board of Trustees engages in.
Mental Health & Well-Being of Students
Trauma-informed care in both the classroom and in extra-curricular spaces for students matters. Regardless of a student's identity, social class or status, they should have confidential and timely access to mental health resources,
If anti-hate harassment is happening on or off school campuses, this affects our student community - regardless if it is online or in person. Transgressions should be addressed in a timely and proactive manner, respecting the mutual well-being of our students and community.
Engagement of Student Voice
I believe in a model of youth and adult partnerships that gives the framework and opportunities for our students to play a
role in decision-making both at the District level and the school site level. If a policy is about the health, safety, and welfare of a young person, they should be involved in the youth
participatory data and action research – they should be involved at every level and if they need support for capacity building in their leadership, we should align it.
